Mayor’s Corner by Greg “Porp” Rogers
I guess the watermain break issue is not dead yet. We had another one on East Main St on Tuesday. Monroe County Water Authority is dealing with this problem and will be in to talk about the plan to fix the winter’s damage. Fixing streets and the mowing of grass is the DPW’s main focus right now. Other things are going to be on hold such as new pickle ball courts and other special projects. The plan is to continue to repair pot holes and repave South, North and Church St.
The Village Board is looking to clean up properties that are unkempt. We will be working with code enforcement, Village PD and the courts to take action on those who want to bring down neighborhoods by neglecting their properties.
We have put up digital speed signs on Wolcott St. by the tennis courts as a reminder to slow down. Three more will be going up on North St., South St. and Gilbert St. These were purchased through a grant and are no cost to the village. Signage addressing commercial trucks exceeding the weight limits of 5 tons on village streets is going up and tickets will be issued.
Usually my column is more positive, but unfortunately the board and myself have been fielding many of the complaints from our citizens, that quite honestly are warranted.
On a more positive note, the village received a $22,000 grant for an electric charging station that will be put in the municipal lot off Bank St. This will take care of all the costs involved.
