Mayor's corner

Mayor’s corner by Greg “Porp” Rogers:

As I write this column, I reminisce about 6 years ago the town, village, school, Fire department and LeRoy Ambulance were meeting to discuss the Covid pandemic that was just beginning to take shape. Nobody in the room had the answers, because quite frankly, nobody had seen anything like this. At that time, the strategy in the room was to communicate with each other, ask for help if you need it, and help whenever you can, and JUST MAKE IT THROUGH.

That year changed so much here in America, and the ripple effect is still being felt in our health care system and inflation. The “defund the police movement” did anything but, as municipalities fight for law enforcement personnel, driving up the cost. Healthcare premiums rise at double digit percentages yearly, and the cost of goods and services have taken its toll on all our budgets. But we made it!!!! Speaking of making it, 2 of our local officers Selah Martek and Louis Scafetta answered a call at the Legion last weekend to find a patron who had a heart issue and was unresponsive. With their quick action and training, they were able to bring this person back until our ambulance arrived.

Congratulations to our Men and Women’s high school basketball teams for winning their sectional titles. Never have both won the title in the same year. Great Job!!!!

The board has begun to work on the Village budget for the coming year and will have our public hearing on Wednesday, April 15, at the village hall at 7:00 pm. In my next article we will have the final numbers and the reasons for the increase.

The Village Board Meeting will be on April 13, at 6:00 pm at the Village Hall for our yearly Organizational Meeting.
