Mayor's Corner

Mayor’s Corner by Greg “Porp” Rogers

Well, this old dog is starting a new era. This will be my first column that is not in the LeRoy Pennysaver. We will be posting these columns on the Village website villageofleroyny.org and the LeRoy N.Y. Then and Now Facebook page.

A lot has happened since my last article. The Village Board and a group of Citizens have started the process of updating the Village’s Comprehensive Plan. While it is taking more effort than originally thought, we are making progress and are aggressively seeking outside help on this project. I will let you know when our next meeting is because we would love your input. The next meeting May 20th at 7 pm at the Village Hall.

Next up, the Village Board and the Clerk Treasurer, with the assistance of Sharon Jeary, have been working on the upcoming budget. Over the last 16 years, the Village has achieved a very stable tax rate with a variation of only .57 cents per thousand and no change in the last six years. This year is no different. We will keep our tax rate at $10.70 again. As in the past, we have used a fund balance to offset big increases but as everyone knows, the cost of virtually nothing has stayed the same. What I can promise is the Village Board will scrutinize its spending and try to offer you all the services you have been accustomed to, while keeping the quality of life in LeRoy affordable.

Once again, my Wife and I were guests of the LeRoy Volunteer Fire Department for their Annual Banquet. It is a very humbling experience to be in a room with so many who give so much for our community. Thank You to all who serve to keep us safe. I would also like to congratulate Jimmy King for being named Fireman of the Year.

Lastly, a couple of weeks ago our community lost a great person and a close friend of mine, Jim Wujcik, who served as a Village Attorney for a couple of years during my term in Office. Jim was a great Attorney and Advisor, as well as a confidante to Myself and the Village Board. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten.

Lastly, Saturday 4/20/24 was the opening day of Little League. I am offering up a milk shake to any player hitting an over the fence home run. Congratulations to Carter McClurg who will be the first to collect.

On behalf of Ray Yacuzzo, Jim Bonacquisti and Myself, we would like to thank the Community for your votes and confidence during our March election.

“ see the ball, hit the ball”   Jim Wujcik RIP
